Testosterone: Back in the Spotlight

For decades, testosterone has been branded a “male hormone,” tucked away as irrelevant or even risky for women. In fact, as early as the 1930s, testosterone was tested in women for mood, vitality and energy, not just for its effects on sexual libido. In fact, it was not mentioned for libido due to the moral concerns of the time.
By the late 20th century, it was quietly removed from the list of common therapies, sidelined in favour of estrogen and progesterone.

Fast forward to today: testosterone is one of the most talked-about hormones
in midlife health, especially for women. The conversation has reignited because
the evidence tells a new story: at the right dose, testosterone is not only safe but profoundly supportive of strength, mood, metabolism and long-term health.

And here’s the bigger shift; while most doctors only consider it after menopause, many practitioners now argue that testosterone could help women earlier in life -particularly those under constant pressure. High-stressed, high-achieving women in their 30s and 40s often experience energy crashes, reduced libido, poor recovery and mood changes long before menopause. Supporting healthy testosterone levels in this stage may help protect muscle, bone, cognition and vitality for the decades ahead.

What was once considered “off-limits” for women is re-emerging as a whole-body therapy that deserves attention across the lifespan. And it’s not just about women. Testosterone matters for men, and for gender-diverse people too - a truly human hormone that has been overlooked for far too long.
